Have you checked your phone yet? You might just have another message. Oh. No?

Hello Dopamine my old friend. That's the chemical that's released when you check your phone for that one like on social media, that text message telling you to 'have a great day gorgeous' or even an email from your favorite store telling you you've gained 50% off. We all love getting these. But what happens when we don't get them? Well hello negative thinking, and there's one word and one word only that springs to our minds (even sub-consciously)....
R E J E C T I O N.
In a world where we are ruled by technology it's time to make a stand. Statistically we check our phones every 12 minutes of the day. That's insane. I mean you really think we would have better things to do then so-called 'connect to the world.' But when you think you're spending your time connecting, you're actually spending your time disconnected to what really matters. Spending time with friends in the outside world, doing what you love, walking, running and enjoying life...even when it's raining outside.
Checking our phones has turned into a habit (sometimes even a ritual) and like a secretary tells a boss what's next on the agenda, it's exactly the same for our brains. It only takes 5 times for the the big boss i.e YOU to turn around to your so called 'secretary' and say no to checking your phone, (and instead do something more important) for the habit to slowly deteriorate, and like anything, the more you do it the more you will learn not to do it. But what if we miss something..?
F O M O
I had actually no clue what this meant until literally a couple of months ago, but then again I don't often keep up with the times. (I'm pretty sure the saying 'do you live under the rock' was based on my rock.) The fear of missing out however, is defiantly a fear of which most of us suffer from. Apparently our brain convinces us that if we don't have our phones glued to our hands every minute of the day then we could miss out on major opportunities, like; meeting your celebrity crush and them happening to fall in love with you, winning that competition which takes you to the Maldives for a week, or even something as simple as your mum texting you asking if you wanted a cuppa. However I have some news for you... the saying 'you won't miss it if it's meant for you' is really true. If it is really meant to happen then it will happen no matter what. So maybe your celeb crush is really just an asshole, maybe the weather in the Maldives is going to be shocking that week, and maybe you don't need a cuppa because you've already had 6 already today, (and it's only 1 o'clock.) My mum is forever repeating to me that...
Whatever will be, will be
And I hate to say it but I think she's right as always. So find a hobby, call a friend to see their delightful face in person, and turn your phone on airplane mode. If you're really that worried about safety then do what I was advised to do and get a funky flip phone, I put £10 credit on it in June 2017, and I've used exactly 17p since. Trust me when I say, it's worth it, plus you can sassily flip it closed when you've totally won the argument you're having, no iphone upgrade can give you that satisfaction, can it? No. Didn't think so.
